About the event
Black Wellness returns for the New Year! This series is intended as a nurturing experience EXCLUSIVELY for people of the African Diaspora. There are few wellness spaces in Seattle where WE are in the majority. We deserve sacred space to feel seen, held and safe enough to show up exactly as we are, so that we may soften, rest, release and heal. It is even more powerful when we are able to do this in community.
For this edition of Black Wellness, we will bring in elements of Black History Month by celebrating Black practitioners in the wellness field, both locally and nationally. We will practice self-care and community care with a little bit of gentle yoga, moving into a grounding guided meditation, followed by a nourishing sound bath.
What is a Sound Bath?
In general, a sound bath is a meditative experience where participants are “bathed” in the healing vibration of sound waves. There is no water used in a sound bath. These sound waves are produced by various sources, including metal and crystal singing bowls, percussion, chimes, rattles, other instruments and even the human voice itself. For this experience, I will mostly be using metal and crystal singing bowls. (excerpts from Verywell Mind).
What to Wear:
Wear comfortable clothing - sweatpants, leggings, t-shirts, and sweatshirts are just fine! Dress with your comfort in mind. We will remove our shoes, so please wear socks if your feet get cold.
What to Bring:
Please bring a yoga mat (a thick blanket will be fine if you don't have a yoga mat), pillow, blanket (for warmth), water and whatever else you may need for your comfort (extra blankets, eye pillow, bolster, etc). We will be lying down for the majority of our experience together. Chairs will be available for those who prefer not to lie down.
To create a safer space for healing, please note that this event is intended exclusively for Black folks (people of the African diaspora). All others are asked to refrain from registering.
Please note that this event will be held in SOL Yoga's new heated studio UPSTAIRS.
